WALLSEND BOYS CLUB SENIOR TEAM

The 2007/2008 season at Wallsend Boys Club produced a first in its seventy year history. The introduction of the under 7’s Football Development Scheme, along with it’s under 7’s Micro Soccer League and the formation of its first Senior Football Team since 1952, this meant that players can potentially play football continuously for Wallsend Boys Club, from the age of six, until well into their thirties.

For the first time in over fifty years the Boys Club entered a men’s team into the Northern Alliance League in 2007. Named Wallsend Boys Club Senior Football Team. They were able to secure sponsorship by good friend of Wallsend Boys Club, Paul Rogers and his company UNIKA.

The team kicked off their season in the August using a fair proportion of Wallsend Boys Club’s under 17’s and under 19’s players in the early games, with a sprinkling of more experienced players in the team. As the season progressed the team gradually increased the number of experienced players in the team, but still continued to use the best of the younger players, who proved that they were well up to the task playing some magnificent football. The season ended with the team in 6th position in their inaugural season.

The Senior team headed off to Rogatz in Germany 0n 26th June 2008 to take part in a centenary competition hosted by SV Concordia, with the 26 strong party of players and officials headed by their greatest supporter (and organiser of the trip) Bob Corkhill. The Wallsend team played superbly and ended up winning the competition and left with a host of new friends in Germany.

In the closed season the Senior Team committee moved into action quickly to secure the finances of the team for the 2008/2009 season.

Looking to renew our team’s strip sponsorship was the committee’s first objective, Paul Rogers through his company UNIKA were kind enough continued to sponsor the team’s strips and part of the running costs.

We were also fortunate to get Graeme Robson and Ken McDonald through their LIFT-RITE and MECH-RITE companies to sponsor our polo shirts and part of the running costs, which in the Northern Alliance League is quite substantial.

The 2008/2009 season started with a predominantly young team playing home games at St Peters playing fields.

The ability of Wallsend Boys Club to create a structure where you can play football from the age of six to well into your thirties is to be admired; this ensures that players can stay loyal to one club for over thirty years enjoying their football and the club’s social side, without having to change teams.
